GOOD TO KNOW

Classic EtchingEngraving has a long tradition. A workshop uncovers some exciting secrets.

28.05.2021 von Petra Engstle / Reading time: approx. 4 minutes

It takes some time of training to learn the traditional craft of EtchingEngraving to produce a tool surface. To experience live how such an engraving is classically created, a short workshop of 2 days can give an interesting insight.

The transfer of the design is done by rubbing on classical wax print or modern multilayer films, which are produced on site. After the transfer and a retouching, the selected engraving is then produced in the acid bath. Material in steel is removed from the unprotected areas and the final engraving image is formed. After rinsing the surface and adjusting the gloss, the process is complete. Then, an injection moulding impression shows the finished surface.
